‘Round the Sound (8/7) – Seattle same, Bellevue better, Woodinville worse

In Seattle: The King County elections and Seattle mayoral primary was held yesterday (we vote by mail, none of this “waiting in line” bullsh!t, what’s wrong with the rest of the country?) and the results are…more of the same. Mayor Mike McGinn came in second (at last tally) to Mr. Establishment himself – Ed Murray. Only in our town can an openly gay candidate be The Establishment. Meanwhile, socialist candidate Kshama Sawant put up surprisingly strong numbers in her failed bid to unseat Seattle city council incumbent Richard Conlin. Last fall, Sawant ran as a write-in candidate against the former state speaker of the house. So Seattle has to settle for the socialism it already has (jk). Oh, yeah, and King County voted to keep on funding its public parks because we are all smart enough to know that Tea Party philosophy is asinine.

Good, bad or ugly, the primary elections in Seattle keep the status quo the same.

In Bellevue: Look out “old” Bellevue with your Thurston Howell III politics. You and Lovey may have to take a backseat to the “new” Bellevue. A Bellevue where families must struggle on a meager average household income of only $100,000 annually. The more progressive challenger, Lynne Robinson, crushed the conservative stalwart Don Davidson for Bellevue City Council. The council’s conservative majority now hangs in the balance. Finally!

Bellevue is getting better.

In Woodinville: Woodinville, the town where the Pacific Northwest gets drunk on wine, has been under assault for a while now. Between gentrification and King County’s Agenda 21 regulations, the town will go from being Mayberry to Terry Gilliam’s Brazil in a few more years. Woodinville is taking big steps towards Big Brother. From Q13:

The city of Woodinville is trying to ease concerns about the use of surveillance cameras in public places. The City Council agreed to purchase the cameras this spring. Tuesday night, they approved a set of guidelines on how those cameras can be used. But the ACLU put out an action alert this spring, saying cameras “do not prevent crime and violate the privacy of people.”

Woodinville is getting worse. She is now, literally, the former flame you only visit when you’re drunk.
